The border post linking Gaza Province in Mozambique to Kruger National Park in South Africa is temporarily closed due to a road cut on the South African side. The interruption prevents travelers from crossing and affects tourist flows between the two countries, the National Migration Service (SENAMI) reported.
According to the spokesperson for SENAMI’s provincial directorate in Gaza, Abeldo Nhanombe, the crossing point is currently not operational. “The border post is currently impassable,” he stated.
Nhanombe explained that traffic was suspended after the access road was cut in South African territory. The situation is due to flooding in the region, which makes it impossible for travelers to cross between Mozambique and South Africa at this point.
The border post is located in Gaza Province and provides a direct connection to Kruger National Park through the Massingir district. The facility constitutes an important mobility route between the two countries.
In addition to facilitating cross-border connections, the post also serves as a tourist corridor between Limpopo National Park and Kruger National Park, considered one of Africa’s main natural reserves.
Under normal conditions, the crossing sees a regular flow of visitors. According to Abeldo Nhanombe, around two thousand travelers use this border point each month, including tourists and other visitors entering and leaving.
The spokesperson warned that the crossing closure could impact the region’s tourism activity. “Without this route operating, Gaza Province loses out in tourism and beyond, especially for those intending to visit our province and the rest of the country,” he said.
