AMAL Industries, a manufacturer of fabric bags and packaging based in the city of Beira, Sofala Province, has begun operations at its new production facility for cement bags with valves and flat bottoms. With this initiative, the company is now entering a specific segment linked to the construction industry in Mozambique.
In a statement cited by the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM), the company explained that the investment is considered strategic and aims to strengthen the country’s industrial base, support the construction sector, and reduce national dependence on imported packaging. The new facility is thus part of the company’s expansion and diversification process.
The facility will produce valve-top cement bags with block bottoms, made from high-strength fabric. These products are intended for cement manufacturers and construction material suppliers, offering more durable, safer, and locally produced packaging solutions.
Beyond the production aspect, the company emphasized that the project is part of a broader vision for industrial development. The goal is to increase national production capacity, promote import substitution, and strengthen the local supply chain.
“The investment goes beyond the production of cement bags. It is about developing domestic capacity, supporting import substitution, creating jobs, and strengthening the local supply chain for Mozambican industry,” said Rui Cotrim, CEO of AMAL Industries, as quoted in the press release.
He added that the initiative will have a direct impact on the country’s competitiveness. “We believe this project will bring significant value to the country by supporting the construction sector, strengthening local industry, and positioning Mozambique as a more competitive producer of industrial packaging,” he said.
The project is also expected to generate direct and indirect jobs, as well as promote skills training and the development of communities surrounding the company’s operations. The initiative also aims to respond more efficiently to the growing needs of the construction market.
According to the statement, Mozambique continues to import large quantities of polypropylene bags for industrial packaging. With the start-up of this facility, AMAL Industries expects to reduce foreign exchange outflows, shorten supply chains, and ensure faster supply to the cement sector, thereby strengthening local production and industrial competitiveness.
