The new leadership of the Industrial Association of Mozambique (AIMO), headed by Paulo Chibanga, has pledged to promote active policies to stimulate local production, with a strong focus on industrialization, the promotion of Mozambican content, and reducing dependence on imported goods.
Speaking in Maputo, at the closing of the association’s 16th Ordinary General Assembly, which elected the new governing bodies for the 2025–2030 term, Chibanga stated that industrialization will be a strategic pillar of the new cycle, alongside enhanced institutional advocacy with both public and private stakeholders.
“We want to encourage local production, defend the interests of Mozambican industry, and promote the export of value-added goods produced in the country,” he said, also highlighting the importance of industrial tax exemptions as a tool to strengthen the competitiveness of national companies.
The new AIMO leadership also listed as priorities: fostering internal cohesion among its members, promoting the creation of new industrial units, and enhancing the private sector’s leadership capacity.
As part of the innovations introduced in this mandate, the AIMO Advisory Council was created — a strategic support structure made up of highly respected figures from the business, academic, and institutional sectors. According to the organization, its goal is to guide the association’s actions towards creating a more competitive, dynamic, and sustainable business environment.
As the representative body of Mozambique’s industrial sector, AIMO aims — with this renewed effort — to position itself as a key actor in the debate and implementation of public policies that foster national production growth and economic development.
