Mozambique’s Zambezi Valley to Revitalize Industrial Sector

The Zambezi Valley Development Agency, located in the central region of the country, will in the next three years strengthen the growth of the agro-industrial sector in order to reduce imports.

In order to achieve this objective, the Agency will focus on the establishment and revitalisation of strategic industrial units, encouraging the production of raw materials, marketing, as well as adding value and quality to products.

Xadreque Mwanza, delegate of the Zambezi Valley Agency at the Maputo International Fair (FACIM), said that his institution has been making a great contribution to reducing imports of various products, particularly rice, meat, milk, eggs, cooking oil, organic sugar, fish caught and processed, vegetables, marketed fruit, flour, chicken, processed beans, honey, among others.

Also according to the source, the Agency has also been contributing to the country’s industrialisation by facilitating access to finance for the acquisition, transportation and assembly of processing units.

“We have also already supported the implementation of two hundred micro irrigation systems, improvement of packaging and refrigeration, introduction of colour preservation technology,” he stressed.

The Agency delegate pointed out that his institution is facilitating access to credit for fertilisers and inputs and providing technical assistance and training to about 200 litchi producers.

The objectives of the Zambezi Agency are to carry out studies and present strategies for the economic and social development of the region where it operates; provide technical and financial assistance to economic and social development initiatives, including mobilisation of resources and channelling them to the beneficiaries.

Other attributions include assisting local governments in incorporating the components of planning and land-use planning and local socio-economic development.
