Mozambique Intends to Stimulate Industrial Growth Through the Sustenta and PRONAI Programs

The Government wants, from the Sustenta and the National Industrialize Mozambique Program (PRONAI), to bet on an infrastructure model of fast industrial growth through the implementation, under a public-private partnership regime, of the Free Trade Zones and Industrial Parks created in the country.

The information was recently advanced in Maputo by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno, during a meeting with the national business sector, and assured that the focus will privilege the sustainability of the initiatives as a way to ensure the fulfillment of the goals defined by the Executive for the agricultural and industrial sectors.

According to Moreno, cited by Notícias, besides the agricultural chains, PRONAI pilot projects, some of which with a local approach, such as the initiative of the special processing and agro-industry zone of the Pemba-Lichinga Integrated Development Corridor, energy, tourism, infrastructure and logistics, are also open to capitalization and partnership.

The source explained that PRONAI, by having set the manufacturing industry growth from 8.5% in 2019 to 9.8% in 2024, pursues a networked, environmentally friendly industrialization based on business demographics dominated by individual and family entrepreneurs as well as micro, small and medium operators.

“We proceed with industrialization always aiming to enable the collective goal of building, in a sustainable and inclusive way, Mozambique as a middle-income country where every citizen benefits from the wealth of the soil and subsoil,” he said.

It should be noted that through the National Industrialize Mozambique Program, the Government is attracting investment for projects in various areas, with emphasis on agro-processing and processing of various agricultural products that the country produces.

The minister also called for the need to create a capacity for the dissemination of the programs at the district level, as well as to ensure continuous and effective interaction between central level institutions and district governments, in order to boost the elaboration and identification of projects for the development of rural manufacturing and adding value to local products.
