The governments of Mozambique and China have signed agreements for the implementation of strategic projects in the district of Moamba, in Maputo province, in the southern region of the country. The initiative includes the development of an Industrial Park and a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), aimed at boosting industrialisation, national production, and job creation.
The documents were signed during the Mozambique–China Business Forum, held in Changsha, as part of the first official visit of the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, to the Asian country.
“Among the announced investments are the technological infrastructure of the Moamba Industrial Park, featuring advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, a poultry value chain with the capacity to produce 1.2 million chickens per month, a Pharmaceutical Industrial Park, a natural gas-fired power plant, and the creation of the Moamba Health City,” a statement said.
According to the publication, the package also includes the development of the “Maputo Agri-Parks” agricultural project, in an initial phase covering 50,000 hectares dedicated to the production of maize, soybeans, and lettuce. It also foresees the establishment of a vocational training centre aimed at equipping young people and adults with technical skills to meet the demands of future industries within the Moamba Special Economic Zone.
According to information cited by Club of Mozambique, representatives of the Chinese investors are expected to arrive in Maputo on 26 April to begin work. The initiative is part of the Mozambican government’s strategy to industrialise and expand national productive capacity, while also reflecting a new approach in Chinese economic cooperation, focused on private investment and commercial partnerships.
