Government projections indicate that industrial production in Mozambique is expected to grow by 1.2% in 2025, reaching 146.4 billion meticais (USD 2.2 billion), driven primarily by the metallurgical sector.
“The metallurgical industry could grow to 41.4 billion meticais, representing 28.4% of total output, followed by the food industry with 40.2 billion meticais, and the beverages sector with 23.6 billion meticais,” according to a document released by Lusa.
As for the production of non-metallic mineral products, figures are expected to reach 14.5 billion meticais, while the chemical and synthetic fibers industry is projected to contribute 7.6 billion meticais.
The publication recalls that last year’s target for industrial production was initially set at 144 billion meticais, but that goal was not met due to social unrest, looting, and disruptions following the general elections held on October 9.
The proposed 2025 Economic and Social Plan and State Budget is valued at 512.7 billion meticais (USD 7.9 billion). Key macroeconomic assumptions include a projected GDP growth of 2.9% and an average annual inflation rate of around 7%. Revenue is expected to reach 385.8 billion meticais (USD 5.9 billion).
