MozParks and Sociedade Moçambicana de Medicamentos (SMM) have signed an agreement for the construction of a new medicines production unit in the Beluluane Industrial Park in Mozambique. The partnership, formalised during the 59th edition of FACIM 2024, aims to establish a factory for the production of medicines and medical consumables, the construction of which is expected to take five years.
The contract was signed by Adrian Frey, chairman of MozParks’ board of directors, and Gustavo Martins da Cruz, SMM’s executive director, during a panel discussion on industry and technology at the Maputo International Trade Fair.
The event was attended by government representatives and various business sectors.
Adrian Frey said that the agreement represents a significant milestone in attracting strategic investment to the Beluluane Industrial Park, emphasising that the new pharmaceutical plant will strengthen the country’s industrial capacities and contribute to the well-being of communities through the local production of medicines.
For his part, Gustavo Martins da Cruz emphasised the strategic importance of the project to increase the supply of locally manufactured medical and surgical materials, with the aim of strengthening the availability of these products on the Mozambican market.
In addition to signing the contract, MozParks, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Trade and APIEX, co-organised an event at the Industrialisation Pavilion to celebrate innovation and partnerships in sustainable industrialisation.
The ceremony brought together government leaders, multinational companies and representatives of key companies, emphasising the importance of collaborations for Mozambique’s industrial and economic development.
