Indonesian Pharmaceutical Company Plans to Set Up Vaccine Production Unit in Mozambique

One of the world’s largest producers of the polio vaccine has shown interest in opening a production unit in Mozambique. Who said this was the vice president of Biofarma, adding that the company also intends to expand its covid-19 vaccine to other countries, including Mozambique.

Indonesia is home to one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world – Biofarma, currently responsible for the production and distribution of most of the vaccines used against polio on a global scale. It has over 130 years of experience and is a world reference in the production of vaccines and antisera.

“The oral polio vaccine arrived in Mozambique through UNICEF and has three types of vaccine within it. There were about 5.7 million doses distributed in Mozambican territory, and the last supply was 3.6 million doses in 2017,” said Hidayat Setiadji, vice president of Biofarma, quoted by the newspaper O País.

He also explained the conditions needed for the group to open a production line in Mozambique, adding that it would bring advantages to the country.

The partnership between Biofarma and the Mozambican state may be made easier by the preferential trade agreement between Mozambique and Indonesia.
