Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo met on Thursday, October 30, at the White House with U.S. Vice President JD Vance to consolidate the partnership between the two countries and strengthen technical and scientific cooperation.
“The meeting took place in a context where both countries seek to build a modern, forward-looking partnership, focused on sustainable growth, innovation, and the well-being of their peoples. It also strengthened bilateral relations, with a focus on the energy, infrastructure, security, education, tourism, digital transition, and agriculture sectors,” reads a statement from the Presidency, released by Lusa.
According to the statement, the leaders discussed topics of mutual interest, notably increasing trade, U.S. investment in strategic sectors of the Mozambican economy, and the country’s role in promoting peace, maritime security, and sustainable development in Africa.

The Presidency also highlighted that the meeting “demonstrated the commitment of both parties to strengthen a cooperation based on transparency, mutual trust, and shared benefits, creating conditions for a favorable environment for investment and knowledge transfer.”
It added that JD Vance met with Daniel Chapo on behalf of U.S. President Donald Trump, who was “on an official mission in Asia, a gesture that reinforces recognition of Mozambique’s importance as a strategic partner and a stability actor in Southern Africa.”
“The Mozambican president’s visit to the United States represents a new momentum in the relationship between the two countries, marked by openness to dialogue and investment in areas that promote economic prosperity and shared security,” the statement emphasized.
The document notes that this visit is part of Mozambique’s strategy to consolidate its international presence, aimed at strengthening partnerships that accelerate industrialization, productive diversification, and social inclusion, key pillars of President Daniel Chapo’s governance program, who took office in January 2025.
