The Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) of Mozambique, in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), through the Implementation Unit of the Package of Measures to Accelerate the Economy (EAP) and the National Directorate of State Assets, is organising the first Procurement Forum with a view to expanding and improving the business environment in the country.
According to a publication consulted by DE, the intention was demonstrated during a recent meeting between the government and the private sector, as part of the assessment of the implementation of the EAP, especially measure 7, which deals with matters related to the construction sector.
On that occasion, the parties stated that they intend to modernise the Fund for the Promotion of Housing (FFH), with the aim of enabling projects to access housing, and that the Forum will help to find bases to support changes in the state’s procurement procedures to encourage local industry.
‘CTA and MEF are making technical efforts to organise this major event, which will be the first of its kind in Mozambique. There will be demonstrations of how the state will leverage local industry through its purchases of goods and services, while the private sector will bring its capacity and availability to supply,’ the note emphasises.
At the same meeting, measure 9 was assessed, on how to improve access to finance, where the creation of the Loan Guarantee Fund, estimated at 250 million dollars, is underway, as well as an 80 million dollar credit line.
