The National Migration Service (SENAMI) in Gaza province, in the southern region of Mozambique, reported that between January and December, more than 44,000 travel and residence documents were processed, requested by nationals and foreigners.
According to the spokesman for the Provincial Directorate of Migration, Abeldo Nhanombe, the number of documents processed represents an increase of more than 50 per cent compared to the same period last year, stressing that this success is linked to the fulfilment of the plan to bring services closer to citizens living in all districts.
‘Passports and residence documents for foreigners are required by law throughout the country. We’ve had good take-up of services compared to last year, and we’ve seen a greater influx of migrants,’ he emphasised.
In his approach, Nhanombe sensitised the population to take care of their travel documents to avoid illegal migration, especially to neighbouring South Africa, stressing that surveillance had been stepped up at all levels.
