Despite welcoming the Government’s decision to exempt 10 European countries from the visa requirement to enter the country, out of a total of 28 that make up the list, EuroCam – Association of European Businessmen in Mozambique, regrets the exclusion from that same list of some European countries, particularly Ireland, Greece and Cyprus, full members of this organization and that, due to the investment that businessmen from these countries have in Mozambique, their inclusion in the measure was justified.
“These countries have important investments in Mozambique that contribute to the balance of payments, diversification of industrial production and employment generation. Eurocam urges the authorities to consider, in the near future, extending the list of visa-free countries to cover the remaining members of the European Union.” Appeals Simone Santi, President of Eurocam
Eurocam adds that the imminent approval of the Labour and Private Investment Laws by the Parliament, is awaited with some expectation by European investors, as they accommodate a set of measures that it considers “progressive” to the extent that, in the view of this business organization, they have the potential to increase the attractiveness of Mozambique as a destination for investors.
“Mozambique needs Foreign Direct Investment to strengthen its economy and this measure goes in the right direction, but its success will depend on other measures for the debureaucratization of public administration, which remains a challenge, but that in what concerns digitalization, presents itself as a huge opportunity.” Says Eurocam.
