Tony Elumelu Foundation Opens Applications for Mozambican Young Entrepreneurs With Support of Up to $5,000

Young Mozambican entrepreneurs can now apply for the 2026 edition of the Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Program, which offers up to $5,000 in non-repayable seed capital, as well as training and mentorship for selected candidates, according to the Mozambique News Agency.

The initiative, launched by the Nigerian foundation of the same name, aims to promote youth entrepreneurship across Africa, with Mozambique being eligible since the first edition. Applications are exclusively online and will remain open until 1 March 2026.

The program targets young people with early-stage business projects or innovative ideas with potential economic and social impact. In addition to funding, participants benefit from an extensive capacity-building process, including online business training and guidance from experienced African mentors.

According to the organization, since 2015 more than 400 Mozambican youths have been selected, developing activities in sectors such as agriculture, energy, fashion, commerce, and technology. Some of the supported businesses have become local success stories, directly impacting job creation and income generation.

“We believe Africa’s future lies in the hands of its entrepreneurs. Our role is to provide them with the tools and capital necessary to turn ideas into sustainable solutions,” the Tony Elumelu Foundation said in a statement on its official page.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation is an African philanthropic organization founded in 2010 by Nigerian businessman Tony O. Elumelu, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship across the continent.

The foundation operates on the belief that a strong business class is essential for Africa’s social and economic development and implements this vision through training, mentorship, and funding programs for young entrepreneurs.

Since launching its flagship entrepreneurship program in 2015, the foundation has mobilized over $100 million in direct seed capital, training and supporting thousands of entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries, aiming to foster job creation, reduce poverty, and strengthen the African private sector.
