“Private Sector Can Never Be Ignored or Minimized in the Development Process”

Minister of Industry and Commerce, Carlos Mesquita, this Friday, during the ‘Mozambique Agrobusiness, Industry and Logistic Forum’ held in Beira, Sofala province, praised the role of the private sector in the improvement of the business environment and in the growth and recovery of the national economy.

Carlos Mesquita reminded that the private sector is an important partner in the economic and sustainable development strategy of the country.

“The private sector can never be ignored or minimized. For in it lies the top and determining role for the growth and re-launch of our economy,” said the governor.

Held by the Association of Commerce, Industry and Services (ACIS), the minister revealed that the Government has launched a series of initiatives, to promote the cooperation of productive capacity, through debates, in order to promote public-private partnerships (PPP), highlighting the Public-Private Dialogue model. “The Government and the private sector have implemented with great dedication, the Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) model, a stage for the debate of several burning issues that are stalling the business environment, the main indicator for attracting investment to Mozambique,” he said.

Under the theme “Business Environment, Access to Finance and Business Opportunities”, the Agribusiness, Industry and Logistics sectors were debated, “in a forum that serves as a mechanism to promote investment in Mozambique, at all levels, as well as facilitating links between entrepreneurs engaged in the promotion of investment projects and investors interested in the domestic market, including national institutions to support the development of the private sector,” explained, on the same occasion, the president of ACIS, Luis Magaço.

The event to be held annually is part of the strategy to influence the improvement of the business environment and therefore the development of the private sector.
