ENI, through its subsidiary Eni Rovuma Basin (ERB), and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in Mozambique signed yesterday in Maputo, a memorandum of understanding for the identification of possible collaboration opportunities in the areas of education and technical training, food safety and nutrition, health, access to energy and economic diversification, with particular reference to agriculture.
With the act, which was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Mozambique, Gianni Bardini, the intention is to give priority to Cabo Delgado province, in the north of the country, where, due to the historical relationship between Italy and Mozambique, Italian Cooperation has been involved since the 1970s, with humanitarian and development projects, promoting inclusive growth and sustainable management of natural resources, in favor of the most disadvantaged sections of the population.
In the same region, Eni, which has been present in Mozambique since 2006, discovered significant natural gas resources between 2011 and 2014.
Possible initiatives will be defined according to the strategic objectives of the Government of Mozambique for social development, which are reflected in the actions of the AICS in the country.
The agreement promotes and strengthens the Italian system abroad and is part of Eni and AICS’ strategy to leverage public-private partnerships, which the United Nations indicates as a key tool to achieve the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, this agreement is in line with Italian cooperation law 125/2014, which recognizes the contribution of the private sector in defining and implementing sustainable development projects
