The City Hall of Niterói received, this week, a delegation formed by authorities of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Mozambique (MEF). The delegation was in town through the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), to learn about the activities of the School of Government and Management (EGG), which has already become a reference in the country in innovative initiatives of professional training of municipal servers. This is the second time this year that a Mozambican delegation visits Niterói to learn about good practices in municipal management.
During the meeting, the EGG team, which is linked to the Secretariat of Planning, Budget and Management Modernization (SEPLAG), presented the school’s performance and evolution since 2017, when the institution was created. Since then, more than 6.7 thousand certificates have been issued in more than 250 courses and workshops, such as the pioneering postgraduate programme (MBA) in Municipal Public Management in partnership with UFF, and the Training Plan 2023-2024 of municipal servers.
“In February, Mozambican authorities had the opportunity to learn about SEPLAG’s work in the areas of planning, budgeting, civil servant development and transparency. In Niterói, we believe that the development of public servants is a crucial part of a results-oriented management and of our strategic planning. Thus, receiving the delegation with the objective of deepening our knowledge on the subject shows that we are on the right track. Our performance is consolidating among the different existing practices,” said the Executive Undersecretary of SEPLAG, Isadora Modesto, who conducted the meeting.
The Mozambican delegation’s visit was aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of the ministry’s directors and coordinators by exchanging experiences with benchmark institutions in Economics and Public Finance, mapping academic programmes of excellence and analysing successful models in the training of civil servants.
“Our team from the School of Government and Management in Niterói really enjoyed this exchange of experiences. We were very honoured by the visit and proud that they chose EGG as their local school of government for this opportunity together with other renowned institutions. This visit shows how our work is recognized beyond Brazilian borders,” said the director of EGG, Isabela de Jesus.
José Joãozinho Bandeira, National Director of Administration and Human Resources of MEF, pointed out that the authorities sought EGG for the experience in the training of municipal servers.
“We sought the school because we think it has a lot of experience with exchange training of public servants. Because it has this experience, we wanted to take a closer look and gather this information. What was presented to us, about the school’s initiatives, was also a lesson for us and we hope, as soon as possible, to try to apply [in Mozambique] some of the things that were presented here,” he concluded.
The visit also included the participation of the Niterói Project Management Office (PMO) and the support of the World Bank.
