The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) is calling for the 50-year relationship between Mozambique and Germany to move beyond diplomatic celebration and translate into a new wave of business, investment and concrete projects, with the private sector at the centre of the partnership.
The position was advanced by CTA president Álvaro Massingue during a Business-to-Business (B2B) meeting held at the organisation’s headquarters in Maputo. The event brought together Mozambican entrepreneurs and a German business delegation attending the 61st edition of the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM 2026), which is scouting for opportunities in the Mozambican market.
Welcoming the German business representatives, Massingue called for a new chapter in economic relations between the two countries, one in which the private sector must play a central role. “We want this commemoration to transform the friendship between our countries into business, investment and concrete projects,” he said.
According to the CTA president, Germany is a solid and reliable partner for Mozambique, maintaining a relevant presence in strategic sectors including energy, infrastructure, water and sanitation, and technical and vocational training. At the meeting, the CTA presented investment opportunities in those areas as well as in logistics, agro-processing, agricultural value chains, manufacturing and digitalisation.
Massingue argued that combining Germany’s technological capability, innovation and industrial experience with Mozambique’s natural resources, local partners and growing markets could deepen the economic relationship between the two countries. Mozambique’s strategic location, offering access to southern Africa and SADC markets, was also highlighted as an advantage for German companies looking to expand their continental footprint.
Beyond attracting capital, the CTA wants this new phase of the partnership to generate lasting benefits for the Mozambican economy. Expected outcomes include job creation, knowledge and technology transfer, the development of local suppliers, and the strengthening of national value chains.
Massingue also argued that business meetings held in the context of FACIM must move beyond the traditional logic of institutional contacts and become platforms for concluding actual deals. “It must be a space to transform contacts into business and trust into partnerships. We hope these meetings result in commercial partnerships, joint ventures, technology transfer, direct investment and joint projects,” he said.
The CTA further indicated that it intends to sustain business relations beyond the FACIM framework. The organisation plans to facilitate contact between German companies and Mozambican sectoral associations, as well as support the follow-up of understandings reached during the meetings.
Representing the German business delegation, Cristoph Neuberg, CEO of the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed confidence in Mozambique’s economic potential and called for closer ties between the private sectors of both countries. Neuberg stressed the importance of the meeting in converting business interest into concrete opportunities, noting that the objective must go beyond the simple exchange of contacts.
The message conveyed by the German delegation was one of readiness to accompany Mozambique into a new phase of growth and industrialisation. “Mozambique can count on Germany as a long-term partner,” Neuberg said.
