CTA Launches Exporter’s Club

The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) will launch in the next few days, the exporter’s club, with the aim of responding to the needs of exporters.

It is a multi-sector business platform, independent and non-profit making, which will also aggregate the operators in a common advocacy front for a better insertion in the global market.

The announcement was recently made by the president of CTA, Agostinho Vuma, during the launching ceremony of the 56th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM/2021) that will take place between the 30th of August and the 5th of September, in Ricathla, Marracuene district, in Maputo province.

The ceremony also served to award the exporters that stood out in the sale of their production in the South African market and the United States of America during last year.

Agostinho Vuma, said that in a delicate moment and of deep economic recession, the awarding of the micro, small and medium companies that stand out for their contribution in the expansion of the national exports, challenging the generalized reduction of the demand resulting from the restrictions imposed as a response to the spread of the Covid-19 is not without merit.

According to the source, as a result of Covid-19, exports have been severely affected, an example of which is the volume of US$3.58 billion reached at the national level in 2020, corresponding to a decrease of 23% compared to 2019.

He added that, even if the pandemic was the determining factor for the observed performance, there are structural factors that constrain the competitiveness of companies, such as the persistence of market entry barriers, the cost structure of national companies, combined with the low level of innovation, among others.

“In spite of these challenges we want to praise the efforts that the award winners have shown to prove that with resilience, reinvention and commitment we can make a difference, in a context of adversity,” he said.

The private sector believes that the next edition of FACIM will boost the commitment of all in promoting and displaying to the world what, despite the pandemic crisis, we can offer to galvanize trade between Mozambique and other countries.
