CTA Denounces Slow Renewal of Residence Visas for Foreign Entrepreneurs in Mozambique

The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), which brings together the private sector, lamented the slowness in renewing residence visas for foreign businesspeople, with around 170 processes stalled in the country’s migration services since October last year, Lusa reported.

‘The migration issue has been posing major obstacles to the development of business activities,’ said the organisation’s deputy executive director, Eduardo Sengo, on Friday (14).

According to Sengo, there are around 170 cases on hold without plausible justification in Mozambique’s migration services.

‘The Mozambican President [Daniel Chapo] said that we should do away with bureaucracy, but we see institutions like migration that are simply ignoring these kinds of messages and we don’t know why,’ said Sengo.

The representative said that the delay in renewing visas causes foreign companies to pay heavy fines.

‘In the case of someone who is working or living in Mozambique and has a non-renewed visa, the fines are almost daily,’ he explained, adding that this situation “conveys a bad image and has negative impacts on the country’s economy”, as well as ’delaying projects by public and foreign companies.’

‘We attract delegations to Mozambique and when they want to start working they encounter these kinds of obstacles,’ he lamented.
