Mozambican state company Aeroportos de Moçambique (ADM) ensures that the Chongoene airport, under construction in Gaza province, will be ready by next October. The guarantee was given by the company’s chief financial officer and spokesman, Saíde Júnior.
According to Júnior, due to the effects of the pandemic crisis, construction work on the infrastructure took six months, but he gave assurances that in six months time the airport will be open to national and regional air traffic.
In terms of execution of the infrastructure, which has a 300 square metre cargo terminal, our interviewee spoke of levels above 80%.
It should be noted that a year before the end of the works, ADM launched a campaign, in which it plans to invest 1.6 million Meticais in marketing of that airport, in order to prevent that after opening to traffic it does not become a “white elephant,” like the Nacala international airport in Nampula province.
The public company that manages airports in Mozambique also aims to make that infrastructure sustainable, by developing various businesses, particularly tourism and logistics.
