Vodafone M-Pesa Gives 600 Hand Hygiene Kits to MINEDH

Vodafone M-Pesa recently offered, in Maputo, 600 kits for hand hygiene to the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH). The kits consist of a bucket with a tap, a basin and a stool to support the bucket. The initiative is part of Vodafone M-Pesa’s social responsibility framework to support the government’s efforts to combat Covid-19.

With this initiative, Vodafone M-Pesa intends to replicate its latest experience of hand washing kit distribution, made to more than 30,000 M-Pesa agents nationwide, as it believes that schools should also not be a center for the spread of Coronavirus.

“We believe that connected we can contribute to minimizing Covid-19 contamination rates. Through this support, we want to ensure that schools are not foci of contamination of this disease and in this way, make Mozambique grow,” stressed Gulamo Nabi, General Manager of Vodafone M-Pesa, on the importance of this offer.

For her part, the Minister of Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua, thanked the gesture and stressed that the offer will bring added value to schools, at a time when the start of the school year is scheduled for this Monday, March 22. This action aims to ensure the process of hand hygiene among students and teachers, thus contributing to the continuity of teaching without contamination by Covid-19.

Namashulua reiterates that the priority for this support is the provinces of Niassa and Cabo Delgado. According to the Minister, the choice of Cabo Delgado is due to the pressure that the schools in the districts have been suffering. In relation to Niassa, the Minister mentioned that this province has been identified as one of the provinces that has the greatest need for reinforcement of sanitation resources in schools. Thus, the distribution of the 600 kits offered by Vodafone M-Pesa, will be made equally for the two provinces.

“Our motto is ‘Covid-19 zero in our schools’, so that is our engagement and we are sure that our goal will be achieved, with these supports. Our responsibility is to ensure that all children, wherever they are, can benefit from the teaching and learning process in safety”, explained Carmelita Namashulua regarding the beginning of the 2021 school year, at a time when the country and the world is struggling with the Covid-19 situation.

The Minister stressed, on the other hand, that this contribution will be exclusive to elementary school, where the most vulnerable and sensitive group is.
