Mozambique Telecom, SA. (Tmcel) on Friday, 25 March, in Maputo, pre-launched the 5G technology following the modernisation and technological expansion, as part of the development strategy of the National Telecommunications Network.
At the event, held in partnership with Huawei, a Chinese company that is implementing the project, the deputy minister of Transport and Communications, Manuela Rebelo, said that 5G technology would bring great changes to public and private services, boosting the economic development of Mozambique, similar to what is already happening in the world.
“The 5G technology is the most cutting-edge technology at the level of the telecommunications industry and at Tmcel it will initially operate in tandem with the 4G network, before its fully autonomous development over time,” the ruler said, adding that this technology will enable the country to strengthen its base for growth through intensification of economic activities in dominant sectors and diversification of others.
According to Manuela Rebelo, the advantages that 5G brings to Mozambique are vast, allowing the country to overcome many structural, systemic and development challenges, using next generation technologies and solutions that are currently available in the areas of medicine, agriculture, education, among other sectors.
In his turn, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tmcel, Mahomed Rafique Jusob, considered that this was a special moment as it shows that Mozambique is on the wave of modern technology in the world.
For Mahomed Rafique Jusob, 5G technology does not belong to the operators, it is a service for Mozambicans: “It is a service that not all countries have. It is a service with high quality to achieve greater connectivity at a speed up to 10 times greater than the speed currently existing in the country”, he emphasized.
Also speaking, the general director of Huawei Mozambique, António Hou, said that “together we must work tirelessly so that high quality telecommunications reach everyone, keeping people connected”.
