Cimentos de Moçambique (CM) announced an investment of 60 million dollars (3.8 billion meticals) to modernise and expand its factory in the municipality of Dondo, Sofala province, with the aim of doubling its cement production capacity. The initiative is part of the company’s centenary celebrations and aims to increase the plant’s competitiveness in the region.
According to Notícias, the plan includes the installation of a new clinker kiln and the implementation of a vertical cement mill with a capacity of 80 tonnes per hour, as well as a new bagging machine with a capacity of 120 tonnes per hour. With these improvements, the Dondo plant’s annual production will increase to 1.3 million tonnes of cement, which will create 200 new direct jobs, benefiting mainly local young people.
In addition to this investment, CM is completing the modernisation and expansion of its plant in Nacala, whose works, which began at the end of 2023, also include the installation of a clinker kiln, which is expected to be completed in October this year.
According to Fernando Barreto, CM’s CEO, ‘the investments in Nacala and Dondo are proof of our commitment to the country’s development and to strengthening our production capacity’.
This investment package is part of the company’s strategy to consolidate its presence in the market and respond to growing domestic demand for construction materials.
