Businessman Salimo Abdula assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vodacom Mozambique on 1 July, beginning a three-year term after being elected by consensus among the telecoms operator’s shareholders. He returns to the leadership of the company with a commitment to sustain its growth strategy and accelerate the expansion of digital services across the country.
According to a statement received by Diário Económico, Salimo Abdula succeeds Lucas Chachine, who completed his term at the helm of the company. Vodacom Mozambique said Chachine’s leadership helped strengthen the operator’s market position and increase its contribution to the country’s development, and the company expressed recognition for the work carried out during his tenure.
This is the second time Salimo Abdula has served as Chairman of the Board of Vodacom Mozambique. A long-standing shareholder in the operator through Intelec Holdings Group — present in the shareholding structure since 2007 — he also chaired the Board of Directors of Vodafone M-Pesa over the past three years.
Vodacom Mozambique regards the experience Abdula has accumulated in the telecommunications and financial inclusion sectors as a key asset for this new phase. The company said his track record will allow it to ensure continuity of its growth strategy and consolidate its position in the national telecoms market.
In his first statement as Chairman, Salimo Abdula said: “It is with an enormous sense of responsibility that I return to the chairmanship of the Board of Directors of Vodacom Mozambique, a company I know well and in which I deeply believe. I inherit a solid legacy and I commit to continuing a strategy centred on people — connecting every Mozambican, bringing services and capabilities closer, and contributing to a more connected, cohesive, inclusive and competitive country, with telecommunications as its foundation.”
Abdula added that the company will continue to invest in improving network quality, expanding connectivity to rural areas, and accelerating the digitalisation of the Mozambican economy. The new chairman said these priorities are aimed at reinforcing Vodacom Mozambique’s role as a partner in national development.

Over the course of his career, he has also served as president of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) and of the Business Confederation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CE-CPLP).
