CFML Logistic and Alistair Group Mozambique have been selected by the Area 4 partners to provide logistics services in Pemba, Cabo Delgado, in support of the drilling campaign and offshore operations of the Rovuma LNG project.
The two Mozambican-owned companies will deliver logistics support services from Pemba, joining the project's supply chain to underpin Area 4 operations.
CFML Logistic, S.A. has been awarded a contract to provide services at the land and infrastructure facilities of the logistics base located at the Pemba Bulk Terminal. Alistair Group Mozambique, Lda. will be responsible for services related to the logistics base.
The awards reinforce the participation of domestically owned companies in the project's development and form part of the local content promotion strategy associated with natural gas operations in the country.
Local Content and Infrastructure With Impact Beyond Gas
The chairperson and chief executive of ExxonMobil Mozambique, Johanna Boothey, highlighted the engagement of the two firms as an expression of the Area 4 partners' commitment to local content development.
'The awards made to these two Mozambican-owned companies demonstrate our strong commitment to local content,' she said.
According to Boothey, the contracts are expected to 'contribute to developing local capabilities, creating lasting value for Mozambique, and supporting long-term port infrastructure that could benefit economic activities beyond the oil and gas sector.'
Boothey argued that contracting domestic companies has the potential to generate benefits that extend beyond the project's immediate requirements, through the development of skills and infrastructure with broader application across other sectors.
Rovuma LNG Preparations Advance
The new contract awards come as preparatory work on Rovuma LNG advances. As reported by Diário Económico on Thursday, 10 September, ExxonMobil, acting on behalf of Mozambique Rovuma Venture, signed a letter of intent with Saipem and Jan de Nul for the provision of engineering, procurement, and technical support services for the upstream gas production component.
The selection of the consortium will enable deeper planning for a development that encompasses 18 wells and a network of subsea pipelines.
Work is progressing as the Area 4 partners prepare for a Final Investment Decision, currently targeted for 2026. Following that decision, the project's construction phase is expected to proceed.
