Mozambique LNG Promotes Partnerships To Maximize Local Content

The Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies, in collaboration with the Mozambican Local Content Technical Group and French business association EVOLEN, held from 3 to 7 April, in Paris (France), a business partnership programme, which included an information and experience sharing seminar, as well as working visits to reference companies in the oil and gas sector.

According to a statement made public on Tuesday, 11 April, the initiative, which was attended by representatives of Mozambican business associations and about 40 international companies, aimed to identify areas with potential synergies between Mozambican and foreign companies for mutual benefit, particularly with a view to maximising Local Content, both inside and outside the oil and gas sector in Mozambique.

António Cumbane, coordinator of the Local Content Technical Group, stated that “this was an initiative of great interest for us because it allows us to bring Mozambican companies to make connections with foreign companies to take advantage of the opportunities that are created by the oil and gas industry”. He continued, “this is an extremely challenging industry and only through partnerships with companies that have the right experience and technology can we create an enabling environment for Mozambican companies and Mozambicans to benefit from the opportunities and be prepared for future challenges.”

Eduardo Sengo, executive director of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), meanwhile, argued that “this type of meeting allows us to meet new players that can add value to what we want to do in Mozambique to take advantage of opportunities using the knowledge and experience of foreign companies in the energy sector which is very vast. Above all, we want to develop concrete projects in Mozambique.”

According to Leonardo Nhavoto, Local Content Manager of TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limited, “to optimise the local content of the Mozambique LNG Project, it is important to create and foster an enabling environment for collaborations. The dialogue that now begins will be crucial for the successful implementation of our Local Content strategy, which involves linking Mozambican and foreign companies so that Mozambican companies can benefit from investment, technology and experience in the oil and gas sector. “
