The Mota-Engil Group announced an increase of 576 million dollars (36.4 billion meticals) in its order book in the Mozambican market, consolidating its presence in the mining sector.
According to a report published on Tuesday 3 September by Lusa, quoting a statement sent to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM), this increase is the result of the amendment and extension of the mining contract at the Moatize mine.
‘Continuing the services provided under the mining project at the Moatize mine, located in the province of Tete, Mota-Engil signed a new addendum to the current contract, which provides for the extension of its term to 31 December 2027,’ the document reads.
‘The expansion of the contract in Moatize demonstrates Mota-Engil’s commitment to the Mozambican market and underlines the region’s strategic role in the group’s global operations, reinforcing its position as one of the main players in the construction and mining sector in Africa.’
Recently, also in a press release, the CMVM announced that Mota-Engil’s profits reached the best record in its history, showing a year-on-year increase of 120%, to 113 million euros in 2023.
The document also stated that the company’s result was in line with ‘a performance that combined strong growth in activity with an improvement in the Group’s net profitability, thus realising one of the most important priorities that Mota-Engil aims to achieve in its Strategic Plan until 2026’.
