KARMOL, the energy company formed through a partnership between Karpowership and Mozambican entities, has announced its support for Future Grandmasters, a new social impact programme created by the One World Karadeniz Foundation, Karpowership’s corporate social responsibility arm. The initiative aims to identify and support promising chess players under the age of 16 in the countries where the company operates.
According to a statement received by Diário Económico, the programme will be represented by Turkish chess master Ediz Gürel as its international ambassador. Mozambique is among the countries earmarked for the next phase of the initiative’s expansion.
Future Grandmasters was launched in a pilot phase in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, through a tournament held on 11 April 2026. The top three finishers became the programme’s first participants, earning one year of training and mentorship under grandmaster Nebojša Nikčević.
The pilot experience will serve as the foundation for expanding the initiative to other countries where Karpowership operates. In partnership with local organisations, the company intends to identify young talents and create the conditions necessary to support their long-term development.
“Chess teaches young people patience, resilience, and the confidence to make decisions under pressure — qualities that extend far beyond the board. Following the selection of our first three players, our goal is to discover more young chess enthusiasts in the countries where Karpowership operates and provide them with the guidance and opportunities they need to grow, both as athletes and as individuals,” said Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz, Chief Commercial Officer of Karpowership.
In Mozambique, KARMOL Mozambique has been strengthening its commitment to youth-focused social responsibility initiatives. The company supports the Girl Move programme through the annual funding of a scholarship for a young mentor, who works with approximately 30 students, promoting education and leadership among girls and young women.
In a subsequent phase, Future Grandmasters will be extended to Mozambique and other countries where Karpowership is present, with the objective of identifying and supporting promising chess players under the age of 16.
