The South African logistics and port terminals operator Grindrod set new benchmarks for growth and operational excellence after reporting an “extraordinary performance in 2025”, with the Port of Maputo reaching record volumes of 32 million tonnes per year.
According to the group, this performance was driven by the Matola terminal, which achieved a record 9.9 million tonnes per year, representing a 22% increase in handled volumes.
The terminal operated by the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) also recorded record volumes of 15.2 million tonnes per year.
Regarding its core operations — which include ports and terminals, logistics, and group operations — net results increased by 17% to 72.25 million dollars, the company said in the release of its latest results for the financial year ended December 31, 2025, published this Friday (6).
Grindrod, headquartered in Durban, also reported a double-digit increase in revenue, which rose 12% to 331.15 million dollars during the period under review, compared with the same period last year. Earnings per share stood at 179.8 cents.
“Despite a rapidly changing operating environment, Grindrod’s teams demonstrated remarkable agility and discipline, ensuring that the company not only navigated uncertainty but emerged stronger, more efficient, and positioned for sustainable long-term growth,” said Grindrod Chief Executive Officer Kwazi Mabaso during a virtual seminar held after the announcement of the results.
In line with this performance, the company declared a special and ordinary dividend of 68.2 cents per share, resulting from the strong performance of its core operations and revenue from the disposal of non-core assets.
