The Council of Ministers, meeting this Wednesday (6) in Maputo for its 12th regular session, adopted a resolution removing Ludovina Bernardo from her position as Chair of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH). Rudêncio Morais was appointed to replace her.
According to a report by Integrity Magazine, Rudêncio Morais holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) and a master’s degree in Geological and Mining Engineering from the University of Coimbra. Prior to his appointment, he served as director of the Research and Production Division (PPP) at ENH.
A native of Zambézia Province in central Mozambique, Rudêncio Morais previously worked at Vale Mozambique. He is a poet, writer, researcher, member of the Yes Mozambique Association, and patron of the Geological Tour to Katembe initiative. In the past, he published a work titled Hydrocarbon Exploration in Mozambique: An Overview of Recent Discoveries and Development Strategies.
ENH is the Mozambican state entity responsible for the research, exploration, production, and marketing of petroleum products, representing the state in petroleum operations.
Founded in 1981, ENH has adapted its corporate structure to the needs of the industry and the domestic and international markets, establishing itself as a business group with the capability to participate in all petroleum operations and the respective phases of hydrocarbon and derivative exploration, production, refining, transportation, storage, and marketing.
Its operation as an integrated group, and through the partnerships it has established in recent years, has enabled it to secure its core business—the upstream sector—with activities focused on the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas, with the primary objective of increasing the likelihood of discovery during the exploration phase and optimizing resource recovery during the production phase. In the downstream sector, it extends the hydrocarbon sector’s value chain with the aim of diversifying and expanding the use of gas in Mozambique.
