The new home connections for electricity have been exempt from fees since Saturday, a measure that aims to facilitate access to this resource by Mozambican families.
No citizen should pay to the company Electricidade de Moçambique whatever the amount related to the electricity connection fee in Mozambique.
The measure, announced Friday by the President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, in the administrative post of Alto Ligonha, district of Gile, province of Zambézia, is part of the strategy of reducing the bureaucracy of the mechanism for the admission of new electricity consumers, and aims to neutralize corruption scenarios.
“Some staff members contact you, demanding payment of some money to have access to electricity. Do not accept. As of today, the process is free. Citizens should only pay for what they consume. There is no payment of any connection fee ”, underlined the President of the Republic, noting that the connection of energy is not about providing favor, but covering a need imposed on the State so that the citizen has a decent life.
The measure, much welcomed by the population, is in line with the strategy to eliminate barriers to access electricity in the country. The Head of State announced it on the sidelines of the opening of the electricity grid at the Alto Ligonha administrative post on Friday, an action that fits in with the execution of the Mozambican electrification program with a view to accelerating universal access to electricity by 2030.
