Companies Leave Pemba Fearing Instability

Several companies in Pemba, in northern Mozambique, are closing down because of instability in the region and many people are moving away from the city.

Businesses are falling, movement in the port of Pemba has dropped by 30% and some people doubt the ability to carry on with the gas exploration project.

According to the RTP report, around a thousand companies operating in Cabo Delgado could close their doors and over 100,000 people risk losing their jobs due to the terrorist attacks.

Since the terrorist attacks began in Cabo Delgado in 2017, one thousand and one hundred and ten companies have been affected, some have closed their doors, others are already on the verge of bankruptcy.

The situation has long been considered serious, but became untenable after the attack on the town of Palma, which was the biggest business centre of the mega gas projects in the Rovuma basin.

The terrorist attacks have destroyed the dreams of many business people in Cabo Delgado. Others have lost hope and have already left the province but some have no alternatives and are prepared to face anything and everything.
