Passenger and freight trains have resumed running on the Limpopo line, between Marracuene and Manhiça, after being suspended since 8 October due to operational reasons. The information was provided by the southern executive board of the company Portos e Caminhos-de-Ferro de Moçambique (CFM).
According to the newspaper Noticias, the Limpopo line, with a length of 522 kilometres, is the longest on the railway system in the south of the country, linking the Port of Maputo to Zimbabwe, playing a strategic role in the transport of goods and passengers. This infrastructure is vital for strengthening trade relations between Mozambique and its neighbour.
The CFM statement does not specify the exact reasons for the suspension, but says that traffic has been restored, ensuring the normalisation of rail services on the line.
