CCM Intends to Support the Internationalisation of Portuguese Companies and Brands

The Mozambican Chamber of Commerce (CCM) intends to support the internationalisation of national companies and brands. According to it, at least 120 Mozambican businesspeople, representing the main sectors of economic activity in the country, have expressed the desire to internationalise their companies, brands, products and services in other markets.

The CCM brought together, at an event held last week in Maputo, Mozambican and Rwandan businesspeople with the aim of promoting a business exchange to boost business and trade between them.

Speaking on the occasion, CCM President Alvaro Massinga called on participants to promote partnerships for the development of trade and investment between the two countries.

“We believe that there is great potential for doing business. Mozambique is truly a country of the present and the future, with enormous mineral, tourism, agro-ecological, wildlife and fishing potential and a young and active population capable of generating wealth and transforming all available resources for the benefit of development,” said Álvaro Massinga, quoted by Notícias.

The source added that he was aware of the existing bilateral agreements and the commercial exchanges that are based on exports to Rwanda of sugar, maize and coal.

“We believe, however, in the existing potential for diversification to broaden the spectrum of these trade partnerships by integrating other products [of which we have enormous potential] such as beans, soybeans, almonds, pulses and fish products,” he stressed.

Industry and Trade Minister, Silvino Moreno, speaking on the occasion, said that the two countries had a history of continental coexistence that, focused on developing trade and investment, could and should continue to boost the respective economies in a reciprocal and advantageous way.

“Mozambique has therefore been building mechanisms to promote and facilitate trade and investment always with a view to stimulating an increase in trade relations, with the direct intervention and beneficiary being the national private sector,” he said.

According to the source, the balance of trade over the last five years, despite being favourable to Mozambique, with exports totalling US$2.3 million against US$1.5 million in imports, has enormous room for diversification and balanced growth, considering the mutual potential.
