Caterpillar Celebrates 100 Years in Africa With Focus on Growth in Mozambique

Caterpillar, a global leader in the manufacture of construction and mining equipment, is celebrating 100 years of presence in Africa and reinforcing its commitment to development in the country. The company has been a key player in the modernisation of infrastructure, supplying essential equipment for the construction, mining and power generation sectors, strategic pillars for the country’s growth.

According to Engineering News, over the years Caterpillar has consolidated its presence in Mozambique through partnerships with local dealers, guaranteeing the availability of machines and services adapted to the needs of the market. The company has been involved in road and bridge construction and mining projects, sectors that are experiencing significant growth due to the expansion of the extractive industry.

Mining, in particular, has been one of the areas where Caterpillar stands out most in the country. With the increase in the exploitation of coal, graphite and other ores, the demand for modern and efficient equipment has grown, and the company has responded with innovative solutions, allowing mining operations to become more productive and sustainable.

As well as selling machines, Caterpillar is committed to training Mozambican labour. In 2016, it launched the ‘Technicians for Africa’ programme, a professional training project aimed at young people who want to enter the heavy equipment operation and maintenance sector. Since then, the programme has expanded to almost 30 countries, with more than 4,000 certified technicians, strengthening the qualification of the country’s workforce.

Innovation has been another pillar of Caterpillar’s commitment to Mozambique. The company has introduced connected equipment, which makes it possible to monitor operations in real time, optimise productivity and reduce costs. This technology has been adopted by companies in the mining and construction sectors, improving the efficiency and safety of operations.

For the next few years, Caterpillar intends to strengthen its presence in Mozambique, expanding local partnerships, promoting technological development and increasing the training of Mozambican professionals. The company sees the country as a strategic market and believes that the combination of innovation and training will be decisive for the sustainable growth of the industrial sector.

By celebrating a century of activity in Africa, Caterpillar is reaffirming its commitment to Mozambique’s development, contributing to the modernisation of infrastructures, job creation and the strengthening of the national economy.
