BetPawa, an African iGaming brand, officially launched its operations in the country on Thursday, August 14, at an event held in Maputo. The ceremony brought together company representatives, special guests, sports figures, and members of the media, featuring institutional moments, interactive activities, and a musical performance by artists.
The launch marks betPawa’s entry into its 17th African market, strengthening the presence of a brand that already operates “successfully in countries such as Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, and Cameroon.” According to Borah Ndanyungu, betPawa’s local marketing and corporate social responsibility (CSR) director, the choice of Mozambique is based on the “energy and passion for sports” that characterizes the country.
“We want to offer a platform that is user-friendly, fast, and secure, allowing users to deposit and withdraw funds within seconds, with immediate payouts after each win,” she said.
In addition to its commercial focus, betPawa is committed to social responsibility. One of its flagship initiatives is the “Locker Room Bonus,” a program that awards cash prizes directly to the mobile wallets of players from the winning teams in competitions supported by the brand. This initiative, already successfully implemented in other African countries, will soon be introduced in Mozambique, with the company in advanced talks with the Mozambican Football Federation.
The “Locker Room Bonus” has been described as “an additional incentive for athletes and clubs, boosting competitiveness and promoting the development of sports nationwide.”
Responsible Gaming as a Priority
Connor O’Donovan, partner and representative of betPawa, emphasized that a “responsible gaming” policy will be a key pillar of operations in the country. “We believe that entertainment should be healthy. We will implement self-exclusion mechanisms, betting limits, and specialized counseling for customers showing signs of risk. We will also actively protect underage players through strict checks with mobile operators and by strictly enforcing the ‘prohibited for under 18’ rule,” he explained.
For Horácio Júnior, betPawa’s marketing coordinator in Mozambique, the brand’s arrival represents “an opportunity to boost the competitiveness of national leagues, energize local sports, and support projects with a direct social impact on communities.”
In addition to contributing to the sports sector, the company also expects to generate indirect economic benefits, such as increased sponsorships and the promotion of professionalization among athletes and teams.
BetPawa is committed to maintaining a balance between technological innovation, safety, and social responsibility, aiming to strengthen the iGaming industry in Mozambique and create synergies with the country’s sports and business ecosystem.
The launch event concluded with the announcement that, in the coming months, new partnerships will be unveiled with national sports clubs and organizations, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to making sports a driver of social and economic development.
