China to Cut Tariffs on Mozambican Products Soon

Part of Mozambique’s exports to China will soon see a significant reduction in tariffs for goods that go to the Asian country’s market.

The measure comes under an Agreement on Preferential Treatment for Goods Originating in Mozambique, initialled between Mozambique and China.

Mozambique’s ambassador in Beijing, Maria Gustava, said that the understanding provided for the national products in question to enter the Chinese market with a 98 percent reduction in unpaid duties.

“The last details are missing for its implementation, as the agreement is very important because it ensures that Mozambican products enter the Chinese market easily. We are currently working on phytosanitary aspects and the registration of companies that can export to China,” said Gustava, cited by Jornal Notícias.

According to the Mozambican diplomat, Mozambique exports wood, fish products, mining (titanium) and agricultural (oilseeds) products to China. Meanwhile, Mozambique imports machinery, manufactured goods and construction products from China, among others.
