Cooperation partners argued this Friday (22) that the 21st Annual Private Sector Conference (CASP) should position itself as a results-oriented platform, capable of converting economic reforms into effective investments and sustainable growth for Mozambique.
The position was presented by Michelle Gomes Souto, representative of Cooperation Partners, during the official launch ceremony of the 21st CASP held in Maputo.
The event brought together government members, CTA leadership, representatives of the national private sector, financial institutions, international partners, business leaders, and other economic actors, marking the official start of the country’s main platform for dialogue between the state and the business community.
In her remarks, Michelle Gomes Souto warned that strengthening economic stability and investment facilitation measures alone will not be enough to meet the country’s needs. “Without concrete, consistent, and innovative actions, we will not be able to attract and secure the investment the country needs.”
She argued that Mozambique must accelerate reforms and turn institutional commitments into effective changes in the business environment. “We are called, as a country, to deepen and accelerate reforms, with CASP being a key platform for this process.”
Other reports suggest that ongoing initiatives aim to improve the economic environment, simplify procedures, and create more predictable conditions for private investment. However, she stressed that the success of these measures does not depend solely on the government. “Building a transparent and predictable business environment is a shared responsibility.”
Addressing the private sector, she called for compliance with legal and fiscal rules, adoption of good corporate governance practices, long-term investment vision, and active participation in implementing reforms.
According to her, a functional market requires not only legislative reforms but also economic actors committed to legality, competition, and economic development. “Without this mutual commitment, reform will not produce the desired impact, and we will not have a virtuous cycle of trust, investment, and sustainable economic growth.”
For cooperation partners, the 2026 edition of the conference should translate into concrete results rather than declarations of intent. “We must see CASP 2026 not only as a space to discuss challenges, but as a mechanism of joint accountability and measurable outcomes.”
The 21st Annual Private Sector Conference is scheduled for July 15–16, 2026, at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Center in Maputo.
