Cabo Delgado: Pemba Hosts Entrepreneurs’ Meeting

The city of Pemba, capital of Cabo Delgado province, was the venue on last Friday, May 23, for the 1st Regional Entrepreneurship Conference, an event that brought together various actors from the business, social, and academic sectors with the aim of promoting sustainable development in the northern region of Mozambique.

According to a statement from the Cabo Delgado Executive Council, made public on Friday, May 30, the conference, organized by Cooperativa em Movimento, aimed to be a space for strategic reflection, where experiences, challenges, and business opportunities were shared, with a focus on innovation, youth, and digital transformation.

At the opening session, the provincial governor, Valige Tauabo, called for concrete and lasting action. “We hope this conference generates clear recommendations, strategic connections, and actions with real impact on the lives of entrepreneurs and the social fabric of Cabo Delgado,” he stated.

The executive director of Cooperativa em Movimento, Noémia Moisés, emphasized that the conference sought to provide a constructive dialogue about the future of entrepreneurship in the region. “Cabo Delgado needs local and sustainable solutions, and these are born from sharing spaces like this,” she stressed. Among the speakers was businessman Assif Osman, who addressed the topic “Solutions for Entrepreneurship in the Context of Cabo Delgado.” In his speech, he highlighted the importance of persistence by young entrepreneurs in the face of numerous challenges, arguing that entrepreneurship education should begin within the family and be reinforced in educational institutions. “Entrepreneurship education should be part of school curricula. Continuous training is essential for those who want to innovate and grow,” he reinforced.

During the meeting, business opportunities in the province, ways to promote innovation among youth, the role of the digital revolution in sustainable agriculture, strategies for the development of the northern region, and mechanisms for entrepreneurs to access financing were discussed.

The initiative arose in a context where Cabo Delgado seeks to rebuild itself economically and socially after years marked by conflict and instability. The focus on entrepreneurship is seen as a key tool to revitalize the local economy, create jobs, and promote social cohesion.

The conference was accompanied by exhibitions and networking moments, with the presence of representatives from the government, private sector, civil society organizations, and young entrepreneurs, demonstrating the collective interest in transforming the region’s challenges into sustainable growth opportunities.
