Safari Air Changes Its Name to Air Gorongosa to Strengthen Its Connection to the National Park

On Monday (6), Safari Air marked the official launch of Air Gorongosa, a reimagined aviation brand designed to improve connections between people, regions, and opportunities across the country, while simultaneously reinforcing its position as a world-class tourist destination.

Air Gorongosa emerged from Safari Air. The initiative positions itself as a purpose-driven aviation service focused on supporting tourism, environmental conservation, commercial activities, and access to healthcare, especially in remote areas.

With a modernized fleet that includes turboprop aircraft such as the Cessna Grand Caravan and the King Air 200, the company is prepared to operate in challenging conditions, ensuring safety and efficiency. Among the services offered are private and scheduled charter flights, connections to remote accommodations and coastal destinations, logistical support for non-governmental organizations and industry, as well as air medical services.

Despite its historical ties to Gorongosa National Park, the company intends to operate throughout the country, providing connections between cities such as Maputo, Beira, and Pemba, as well as various tourist destinations, conservation areas, and hard-to-reach regions.

The launch comes at a time when Mozambique is seeking to reposition its image on the international tourism scene and capitalize on the sector’s growth.

“Air Gorongosa is more than just aviation. It’s about improving access, creating opportunities, and supporting Mozambique’s sustainable growth,” said David Svendsen, the company’s CEO. According to him, the goal is to offer a reliable, world-class service capable of earning the trust of travelers and partners.

The flights connect different parts of the country, from Gorongosa National Park to the Bazaruto Archipelago and Mozambique’s extensive coastline, offering travel experiences that combine savanna and beach.

For Doug Flynn, Director of Tourism at Gorongosa Safaris, reliable air access is essential for the sector’s growth. “Air Gorongosa has already proven to be a reliable solution and plays an important role in bolstering confidence in Mozambique as a tourist destination,” he said.

The launch of the new airline is part of a broader effort to promote a positive image of the country, highlighting Mozambique as an open and accessible destination, ready to welcome international visitors.
