The Government of Mozambique aims to establish a direct air connection with Malawi, with the goal of facilitating private sector business and stimulating economic development between the two countries.
“We would like to have a direct air link from Mozambique to Malawi, which could depart from Tete province, in the central region. This measure will contribute to strengthening partnerships,” declared President Daniel Chapo, on the sidelines of a meeting with his Malawian counterpart, Lazarus Chakwera, during the first day of his official visit to Malawi.
Speaking on Thursday, June 5, the President expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation between the two nations, emphasizing that his stay in Malawi aims to reinforce relations in the fields of economics, defense, security, and migration.
“This visit is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of friendship, brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation between our peoples. We will continue to work together for the well-being of both societies,” said Chapo.
He added that both the public and private sectors in Mozambique are eager to exchange ideas with Malawian counterparts to expand investment in areas such as energy, transport, trade, agriculture, tourism, and mineral resources.
On Friday, June 6, the leaders of Mozambique and Malawi will inaugurate the first One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) at Dedza, aimed at facilitating bilateral trade. The facility was built under the Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project (SATCP), supported by the World Bank, which seeks to strengthen connectivity, ease cross-border trade, and promote sustainable economic growth across Southern Africa.
