Mozambique and Qatar intend to strengthen cooperation in civil aviation, as part of strengthening relations of friendship and mutual collaboration in the areas of transport and communications.
This position was expressed by the Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, to his counterpart Jassim Bin Saif Al Sulaiti during a visit to Qatar.
The cooperation in the civil aviation sector aims to explore the possibility of establishing a strategic partnership with Mozambique Airlines (LAM), increasing flights, implementing air cargo operations and also recruiting more Mozambicans for Qatar Airways, among other initiatives of interest to the two countries.
“The talks allowed for the signing of an agreement to establish partnerships to train Mozambican staff in the areas of air traffic control, ports and road transport management,” the Semanário Económico news portal said.
During the meeting between the two leaders, the Qatari transport minister indicated that his state is quite advanced in the public transport and road safety sectors, experiences that could be applied in future cooperation with Mozambique.
“As follow-up actions, Mozambique will receive a technical mission from Qatar to identify concrete areas of intervention to be formalised during the visit of the Qatari transport minister to Mozambique, agreed for February 2023,” the website said.
In Qatar, Magala also met with the Minister of Tourism of that country, Akbar Al Baker (who is also chairman of Qatar Airways), met with representatives of transport sector companies and visited Hamad International Airport (HIA) and the Port of Hamad.
