The revenues of public company Aeroportos de Moçambique have fallen from 3.5 billion meticals in 2019 to 1.5 billion meticals in 2021, the company’s president announced.
“Our company, in 2019, had revenues in the order of 3.5 billion meticais. In 2020 these revenues fell to 1.5 billion meticais and, even with a slight recovery in 2021, revenues remained at 1.5 billion meticais,” Américo Muchanga explained.
Muchanga was speaking to the media moments after a meeting with the Planning and Budget Committee of the Mozambican Parliament, which on Monday, 26 April, carried out a working visit to the facilities of Mozambique Airport.
Among the airports that brought in the least revenue for the company, Américo Muchanga highlights the infrastructure in Lichinga and Tete, in central Mozambique, as well as Inhambane, in the south of the country.
For the company’s president, despite the negative figures, the end of restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic may open a new chapter, with the revitalisation of sectors such as tourism.
“Every time the country opens up to travel, tourism activities and doing high business there is always a positive message for civil aviation,” Américo Muchanga concluded.
