A Special Unit of Cargo Control started operating this Wednesday at Maputo International Airport, to reinforce the monitoring of the entry of drugs.
The Director-General of the Planning, Studies and International Cooperation Office of the Tax Authority, Augusto Tacaríndua, said that this service also aims to safeguard the taxation of all goods entering the country.
Tacaríndua was speaking on Wednesday after signing a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for the launch of the Cargo Control Unit at Maputo Airport.
The representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Cesar Guedes, said he hopes that the unit now created can prevent Mozambique from becoming an international route for drug trafficking.
The project of installation of Cargo Control Units, with twenty years of existence, is present in fifty-five countries, and Mozambique is the first in Southern Africa with a service of this kind.
