Japanese Government Provides $23M for Modernization of Maputo and Beira International Airports

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, said on Saturday (22) that the government intends that by 2025 the Maputo and Beira international airports are equipped with the latest air traffic control technology.

For this purpose, the governor assured that about 23 million dollars are already secured, provided by the Government of Japan, in order to modernize the two airport infrastructures.

Speaking during a working visit to the Gaza province, Mateus Magala said that more funds are also being mobilized for the modernization of the whole airport network in the country.

In what concerns the Filipe Jacinto Nyusi airport, located in the district of Chongoene, inaugurated in November 2021, the governor referred that “it is necessary a greater dissemination of the economic and touristic potentialities of the province of Gaza to capitalize the infrastructure”.

“It is a magnificent airport in terms of quality, facilities and equipment. As such, it is necessary a greater disclosure of the services, economic and touristic potentialities of the province. I believe that the combination of these factors can bring the development that is intended,” he explained.

The Filipe Jacinto Nyusi Airport is one of the most modern and recent airport infrastructures in the country, resulting from a donation of over $ 600 million from the Chinese government to Mozambique in the context of good cooperation relations between the two countries.
