The government will sell 91 per cent of the state’s shares in Mozambique Airlines by private negotiation. The executive also authorised the public companies EMOSE, CFM and HCB to acquire the state’s stake in the company.
With the amount to be raised from the sale of state shares, estimated at 130 million dollars, the government says it intends to purchase eight new aircraft and invest in restructuring the company.
‘In fact, this is an indirect form of management of this company and what is envisaged is that these companies will use the management rules of international companies. In this way, we believe that the shareholders will not only be able to have greater control over the money they spend, but also use rules that will allow them to monitor the normal life of the company,’ explained the government spokesman, warning that, as these are companies in the state business sector, they will have to provide periodic information to the government.
Speaking this Tuesday after another session of the Council of Ministers, government spokesman Inocêncio Impissa said that 8 billion Meticals will be allocated to support the reconstruction of infrastructure destroyed by cyclone CHIDO.
The Council of Ministers also considered the action plan for the first 100 days of government, which prioritises: Social and Political Stability, Education, Health, Combating Corruption, Employment and Youth, Infrastructure and Public Services, Justice, Agriculture and Food Security, Economic Growth and Resource Mobilisation and Natural Resource Management. ‘Some of these actions have already been implemented since this government took office,’ says Impissa.
Regarding the school year, which officially started on 31 January, Inocêncio Impissa said that of the 13 million or so books needed by pupils, 12 million are already in the provinces and in the process of being distributed to schools.
