Airlink Officially Launches Direct Air Service Between Nacala and Johannesburg

South African airline Airlink officially launches, as of this Monday, 2 February, a direct air service between the port city of Nacala and Johannesburg, strengthening international connectivity in northern Mozambique and enhancing the economic profile of Nampula province.

According to Aeroportos de Moçambique, the route operated by Airlink will feature two flights per week, on Mondays and Fridays, ensuring regular connectivity between Nacala and southern Africa’s main economic hub.

The new air service is part of efforts by Nampula’s Provincial Executive Council to reinforce the economic integration of the country’s northern region, while positioning Nacala as one of Mozambique’s key logistics and economic corridors.

The launch of the route follows contacts initiated during the Nampula Economic Fair, where the need to improve the province’s international connectivity was highlighted in light of Nacala’s growing business and port activity.

Growth in operations at the Port of Nacala and rising business interest in the region were among the main factors supporting the creation of the direct air link, which is considered strategic for the mobility of businesspeople and investors. Both the Government and the private sector believe the new route could boost investment, stimulate business tourism, and strengthen the economic competitiveness of Nampula province by improving access to regional markets.

With this connection, Nacala gains a new international gateway, regarded as essential for consolidating its role in the economic development of northern Mozambique and in Mozambique’s integration into regional trade and services value chains.
