The French company Air France announced the postponement of the start of flights connecting Maputo and Paris, initially scheduled for June.
The company does not give the reasons for the postponement, however, reports that they are rescheduled for October 31st.
Air France even advertised the sale of tickets through its website ́ on the Internet ́. In Mozambique, the promotion was done through the Cotur travel agency.
In contact with “news”, a source from Cotur confirmed the postponement of the Air France flights, explaining afterwards that the tickets sold will be rescheduled without additional costs for customers.
“In this case, because the postponement is from the company itself, all tickets sold can be rescheduled and there will be no costs for customers,” he assured.
Without specifying numbers, the source pointed out that there were already many people expressing interest in the Maputo-Paris route.
“I don’t mean in terms of sales per se, but there were, in the last few days, many people contacting us to find out more details about the flight,” he stressed.
In recent years, France’s interest in the Mozambican market has seen a remarkable growth, a fact that has been boosted in part with the entry of the oil company Total in the natural gas projects in the Rovuma basin.
In fact, France has the second largest European business community in Mozambique, operating mainly in the energy sector, transport and logistics, as well as in services, namely banking, human resources, consulting, auditing, among others.
Since 2015, the leaders of large companies operating in the country decided to create France-Mozambique Business Club.
In 2017, the two countries initialed an agreement allowing their respective airlines to establish and operate regular passenger, freight and mail transport lines, in addition to their aircraft being able to fly over the territories of both states and make technical stopovers.
