Sofala: Zambezi Agency Announces Installation of Two Rice Processing Plants

Two rice processing units will be set up next year in the districts of Chemba and Búzi in Sofala. This is a Zambezi Valley Agency project aimed at developing the cereal value chain.

The two processing units, according to the provincial delegate of the Zambezi Valley Agency, will join the three already in operation in the Dondo district, bringing the total to five. With the project, the country will be able to reduce the volume of rice imports.

“Firstly, we hope to reduce the rice import deficit. Three processing units have been established and it is planned to re-establish two more rice processing units in the districts of Chemba and Búzi in the first half of next year,” said Charles Pereirão this Sunday, 15 October, quoted by Rádio Moçambique.

Last week, the Agency announced the disbursement of more than 80 million meticais to finance 53 small and medium-sized agribusiness companies (SMEs) affected by Cyclone Freddy in the centre of the country.
